Educational Records

It is important to know that parents of public school students – whether the student has a disability or not – have the right to obtain copies of the student’s education records. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, 20 U.S.C. § 1232g (sometimes abbreviated “FERPA”), requires school districts to provide you copies of your child’s education records on request. School districts must also publish an “annual notification” explaining parents’ rights to access education records, and distribute it to parents in the school district
